Simpson Employee Recreation Area on Mason Lake

Group Site #1

For those of you who would like to spend Friday and/or Saturday night camping on the lake we have reserved camping on the south end of Mason Lake at the Simpson Employee Recreation Area that has a covered pavilion, one large fire pit, several (8) individual fire rings, a BBQ pit, lots of picnic tables, hot showers, and flush toilets. This group site is large enough to hold 50 or more people. There is also several horseshoe pits, a large playground, a swimming area, short hiking trails and access to canoes and kayaks. We hope that you will camp with us, relax on the lake, enjoy some recreation options nearby, smores and evening melodies (bring your instrument) around the fire at night.

The front gate is staffed between 8:30AM-4:30PM each day. If you arrive during this time on Friday or Saturday you can let the person at the gate know you are camping in Group Site #1 under the name, Winter. Campsite #1 is on your left before you get to big paved parking area. We will have to coordinate with a gate card for any entry and exit after 4:30PM. We have a friend camping with us over the weekend who will act as our "Campground Host" and should be available to get us in and out as needed. You most likely will not have cell phone reception at the campground. If you show up after 4:30PM and the gate is locked, park outside the gate and walk in to find one of us with a gate card to let you in.

Sites with two tents are $17 per night, each additional tent is $5. RV's are $23 a night. They will issue us a 3 ring binder with site map and payment options. It should be easy enough to figure out payment, sharing of camping fees once on-site. There are eight individual sites within the Group Camp #1, arranged around the permitter of large circular group site with plenty of room for additional tents and possibly vehicles if you are planning to sleep in your truck, van or other RV. They said that we can pack as many into a site as we want to. My guess is that there will be 20-35 campers? We will try to designate an area for vehicle camping for easy access, as well as enough space for cars to park.

Group Site #1 is on your left as you come into the main entrance just before you get to the big paved parking lot.
